New Garden Quarter - Stratford 3D Modular Environment

Renders

Development Process

Reference Picture-

For this project I did a lot of walking around london however in the end I settled on a view I looked at almost every day walking to uni. this was taken off the Penny Brookes St. Bridge into Stratford. I really like the modern aesthetic in architecture, and this building really leant itself to the modularity we were looking for in this project.

Modularity Overlay and Spatial Planning-

First I needed to know what pieces I was going to need. I painted over the Reference Image to come up with a selection, colour coding to show repeated blocks. there was a lot of detail in the Image and I wouldnt be able to full recreate all of this however I decided to fill ectra detail with more simple placeholder building to preserve the image composition.

Building Blockout-

The Blockout with all the main modular buildings to rough out how the space fits. I was bvery careful to ensure instancing of pieces as any modification to individual pieces could spell disaster here.

Conceptualising Space-

I made a quick draw-over from the blockout to figure out how I wanted to adapte the space, using composition techniques to best convey the fell of the environment.

Fleshing out the Scene-

I used large Landscape pieces to fill the empty space in the scene. I preserved the train tracks running in the lower section but added a tunnel and a grass banking to simplify the space and enclose it a little more. finally I added 2 smaller low rise blocks in the background the reduce the drops between the skyscrapers.

Adding Foliage-

I made a tree and a bush using the foliage tool in 3DS Max and duplicated these in a way to hopefully reduce how noticeable it is that theres only 1 tree.
